Kindergarten Curriculum

I am piecing this together as I go.  We're starting with what I have (100EZ, MWM, Kumon books, and Brainquest K).  For the unit studies we will rely heavily on the library for our informative books and find free/cheap lapbooks online as well as other printables.  The name of the game is FREE over here :)

Math: Moving with Math

Phonics/Reading:  Continuing with Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons

Spelling:  Do I teach spelling in K?

Writing:  Alphabet practice, following 100EZ lesson each day.  We will also use pages from Kumon Books and Brainquest's Kindergarten workbook.  Marshall will also do copywork from the Nursery Rhyme each week.

Literature: We will be memorizing 1 Nursery Rhyme a week
Read-alouds will include books off of popular Kinder. reading lists
We will also do favorite childhood author studies

Science:  Unit Studies will include:
Dinosaurs (done)
Scientists/Scientific Method
Human Body
Animals
Plants
Weather
Insects
Space

History:  Unit Studies will include:
Native Americans
Christopher Columbus
Pilgrims
George Washington

Geography:  We will learn about:
Our Neighborhood
Maps/Globes
The Continents and Oceans

Life Skills:
Emotions
Friendship
Safety

I also want to study:
The Wright Brothers, and maybe Amelia Earhart
Musical Instruments

Gospel:  In our church the primary children (Sunday School) showcase what they have learned all year in a program for the entire congregation.  We will follow their outline to enforce what Marshall is learning in Primary.  This will include learning the children's hymn they are studying that month, memorizing the monthly theme and scripture, and studying the book (from the Bible or Book of Mormon) that they are in church each year.  I read about a family who has children draw about what they read that day and I want to incorporate that as well.  We will also include one "fun hymn" of my choosing for the week.  This will be to familiarize the boys with all the songs.  Our morning gospel routine will also begin with prayer. {Thanks for all the ideas, Tristan!}

Music:  For now we will be using our morning children's hymns and calendar songs as music.  We also have a variety of children's music stored on my ipod that we listen and dance to.  I hope to study composers eventually and also introduce Marshall to early piano skills.  Know of any books/software that teach this?  We can't afford formal lessons.

Art:  Arts and crafts projects will come from our unit studies as well as holiday and seasonal crafts.  He will keep a drawing journal for our scripture study as well as a science notebook with sketches.  We also have the Kumon Drawing book as well as Follow the Directions and Draw it by Yourself.

Spanish:
Still looking into a curriculum for this.

PE:  Karate and Swimming lessons as well as neighborhood walks, playing at the park, our Toy Story Hopscotch mat, jump rope, hallway soccer, and tickle fights (hehehe)
